The project, the Index to the 1880 Census Tennessee, was published in three volumes: One volume each for East, West, and Middle Tennessee. This volume, the Index to the 1880 Census of Middle Tennessee, includes the Tennessee counties of Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Coffee, Clay, Dickson, DeKalb, Davidson, Fentress, Franklin, Giles, Grundy, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Jackson, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Moore, Marshall, Montgomery, Maury, Overton, Perry, Putnam, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Stewart, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren, White, Williamson, Wilson, and Wayne. There are approximately 179,000 heads of households listed.
The information contained for each entry includes the heads-of-household, including the names of persons living in a household of a different surname. Includes name of household head, age, race, sex, the county symbol and page number from the original schedules.
